EBF issues ‘wish list’ for digital euro; warns of risks to banks and says service must have clear benefits for people and corporates

The European Banking Federation (EBF) has warned that any decision to set up a ‘digital euro’ must be backed by a clear need for it, and that it should benefit both people and businesses.

The body – which represents the national banking associations across the continent – neither endorsed nor rejected the idea of this government-backed digital currency in an extensive statement Wednesday.
