By Alisha Houlihan for AMLi

The House of Commons public accounts committee have criticised HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) “unambitious” effort to recover an estimated £5.8BN (€6.9BN) improperly paid out to businesses through the pandemic support schemes, in a report published on Friday.

The UK tax authority has been accused by Members of Parliament (MP), for not doing enough to recover billions of pounds lost through fraud in state-sponsored support packages and warned it risks being considered “soft on fraud”.
