European Data Protection Board warns that current EU AML proposals would have a ‘disproportionate negative impact’ on freedoms of individuals if left unchanged

The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has doubled down on its concerns published last year regarding the EU’s proposed AML plans. 

In a letter sent to European Commissioner for Financial Services, Mairead McGuinness and European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, the EDPB warned that without “further amendments” it believes the new AML proposals would have a “disproportionate negative impact to the rights and freedoms of individuals and would lead to significant legal uncertainty.”
