THE UN has appointed Alice Eckstein as its new project director for the Finance Against Slavery and Trafficking (FAST) initiative.
She replaces Daniel Thelesklaf who earlier this year was appointed Head of Germany’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
Alice previously managed Delta 8.7, the Centre’s project that helped policymakers identify and take effective measures to achieve SDG Target 8.7.
David Passarelli, Executive Director of the United Nations University – Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR), said: “We are extremely lucky to have Alice step in to lead the FAST initiative at this critical time.”
“I have absolute confidence in her ability to manage FAST during its transition to a third phase,” he added.
The next phase of FAST’s work will include strategic partnerships with the public and private sectors, civil society, workers’ organizations, and survivors’ groups.
Alice also served as Executive Director of New York University’s School of Professional Studies Center for Global Affairs; The United Nations University revealed.
The initiative says it is taking advantage of the financial sector’s significant leverage within global value chains, the FAST initiative is concentrating on areas where it has the most leverage over high-risk industries.
Additionally, the initiative is exploring new frontiers of slavery and trafficking risks in the context of crisis and conflict, and expanding its networks throughout the Global South.
