OPINION: Europe’s new AML Authority (AMLA) risks becoming a confused mess

TOP JOB: The nominees from Austria and Portugal are seen as the top contenders to secure the financial services Commissioner job - and an office in the Berylaymont building (pictured).

No decision has yet been made about the location of AMLA. Reports suggest that the political horse trading is in full swing. There’s a suggestion that the Spanish have relinquished their claim to host it in Madrid in return for a prime EU position for one of their own.

That seems like a poor exchange with 400 plus jobs in the frame and the potential for startups and incubators to evolve on the periphery. However, stranger things have happened.
