THE BASEL Institute on Governance today (Monday) announced the death of MD Gretta Fenner in a car accident.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm the tragic death of our Managing Director Gretta Fenner,” the institute said.
The institute said Gretta (49) had been an extraordinary force for change in the fight against corruption.
Her anti-corruption advocacy had been championed both personally and also through the Institute down the years.
The organisation today paid tribute to the way she had “lovingly and passionately built and led” the body for so many years.
Peter Maurer, on behalf of the Board and Management Group of the Basel Institute on Governance said its staff “and our partners and counterparts around the world, will miss her greatly.”
“Her family and friends are in our thoughts as we come to terms with this news. We will keep all informed about plans to honour her memory and celebrate her as she deserves,” the board added.
On behalf of all at AML Intelligence we pass on our deepest condolences to Gretta’s family, friends on colleagues.
Gretta was an internationally known speaker and advisor on anti-corruption, asset recovery, business integrity and broader issues of public governance.
Before joining the Basel Institute, Gretta managed the OECD’s anti-corruption programmes in the Asia-Pacific region.
A political scientist by training, she obtained bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Otto-Suhr-Institute at the Freie Universität Berlin and Sciences Po Paris, as well as an MBA from the Curtin University Graduate School of Business, Australia.
