NEWS: Germany’s BaFin tightens controls on foreign insurance companies

Germany’s BaFin regulator is carrying out extra on-site inspections and interviews of foreign insurers which have branches in the country.

Carsten Sperl, who has oversight of the sector at BaFin, said the organisation was conscious of the fact that foreign insurance bodies operating in Germany do not have to abide by several AML controls required of indigenous businesses.
