José Raúl Mulino, Panama’s new president, has called the Panama Papers ‘an international hoax’ after widespread acquittals in a trial linked to the controversy.

Mr Mulino, a former minister in several government departments including Justice and Public Security, said the scandal surrounding the millions of leaked documents had been intended to damage the country’s reputation.

  • Six People Indicted for Conspiracy to Commit Sex Trafficking in Massachusetts

    Charges Include Trafficking a Minor by Force, Fraud and Coercion
    An indictment was unsealed last week in Boston charging Christy Parker, 26; Alexander Smalls, 25; Cory Primo, 42; Avvani Jeffers, 22; Tre’sean Reid, 21; and Tyreik Reid, 20, with conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and other sex trafficking charges. According to the indictment, between January and August 2023, Parker, Smalls, Tre’sean Reid and Tyreik Reid used force, threats of force, fraud and coercion to compel an adult woman to engage in commercial sex.

  • Issuance of OFAC Productions Submission Standards guidance

    Today, the Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued its OFAC Guidance: Production Submission Standards, updating OFAC’s former data delivery standards.  This guidance provides technical and general guidance to persons submitting material to OFAC and applies primarily to persons providing responses to administrative subpoenas, requests for information, disclosures, and especially for submissions that may entail voluminous documentation (e.g., more than 100 pages).

  • Romania: Three individuals and five companies indicted for €1 million fraud involving IT project

    (Luxembourg, 5 July 2024) – The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Iași (Romania) has brought charges against three individuals and five companies for aggravated subsidy fraud and money laundering, following an investigation into an IT project, with an estimated damage of €1 million. Two of the suspects referred to the court of Iași remain in pre-trial detention.
