José Raúl Mulino, Panama’s new president, has called the Panama Papers ‘an international hoax’ after widespread acquittals in a trial linked to the controversy.

Mr Mulino, a former minister in several government departments including Justice and Public Security, said the scandal surrounding the millions of leaked documents had been intended to damage the country’s reputation.
