NEWS: Spain’s Telefónica pays $85M to settle U.S. probe into Venezuelan bribery

Telefónica’s Venezuela-based subsidiary will pay over $85.2 million to settle a U.S. Justice Department investigation into bribery of Venezuelan officials.

The investigation found that Telefónica Venezolana engaged in a “complex and criminal” financial fraud scheme, in which the firm bribed Venezuelan government officials to obtain access to U.S. dollars.
