BRUNA Szego, chair of Europe’s new AML Authority (AMLA) will deliver a Keynote Address at ‘European Anti-Financial Crime Summit 2025’, it’s been announced.

Ms Szego, officially appointed by EU governments last month as AMLA’s new chief will be in Dublin on May 6 and 7 next for the leading Summit of AFC chiefs and decision makers in banking, fintech, crypto and law enforcement.

The AMLA chair’s address in Dublin is set to be one of her key statements about the agency and its priorities.

In January the European Council of finance ministers meeting in Brussels appointed Ms Szego as Chair of the AMLA executive board. She is expected to officially take up her duties in Frankfurt in mid-February.

Some 800 C-suite and decision-maker AFC, AML and fraud delegates in banking, fintech, crypto, policy and law enforcement are set to descend on the Irish capital on May 7 for the leading summit in the sector.

Leading speakers from across the EU, UK, US and MEA are on the program for the event which will be officially opened by Ireland’s prime minister Micheal Martin.

Separately, AMLA Chair Szego is soon set to be joined at the top of the agency by five other Executive Board members from across the European Union. The appointments are expected some time around Easter with final round interviews being held at the European Parliament on February 19.

The eight candidates who made the shortlist were approved by the College of Commissioners chaired by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at a meeting in Brussels and their names sent onto MEPs.

The shortlisted candidates were chosen following an intensive interview process by Commission officials over the last few weeks.

The successful candidates for the Executive Board will be decided upon by MEPs following appearances before a blend of the ECON (finance) and LIBE (justice) committees on February 19 and 20.

Ms Szego, originally from Savona on the outskirts of Genoa in northern Italy, studied law at the University of Rome. She has served in a variety of prominent supervisory positions in the Bank of Italy, including head of the AML unit..

Ms Szego emerged as the favourite for the position of AMLA chair last year, securing the overwhelming support of MEPs and EU governments.
