STANDARD Chartered have named Stevenson Munro, the head of the bank’s sanctions division, as its new head of AFC.
Munro will now take up the role of Global Head of Financial Crime Risk at the company.
David Howes, Standard Chartered ‘s Global Head of Financial Crime Compliance, said: “Stevenson Munro is deservedly picking up the reigns as Global Head of Financial Crime Risk, adding AML, Fraud and ABC to the Sanctions portfolio that he has successfully led for many years.”
Munro has a long career in anti-financial crime, previously holding senior AML roles at the likes of UBS Investment Bank, Societe Generale and GE Capital. He joined Standard Chartered in 2015, working from the company’s offices in New York.
He takes over from Tracy McDermott, who retired from Standard Chartered at the end of 2024. McDermott is one of the UK’s best-known anti-financial crime fighters, previously serving as the interim chief executive of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the UK’s main financial watchdog.
Howes also announced that Vishal Choraria, who has held multiple senior compliance roles over a 15 year career with the bank, has also been promoted.
“[He] is now leading the teams covering core compliance policies, frameworks, conduct, data, and the coverage of our functions, as Global Head of Regulatory and Conduct Risks,” Howes said in a post on LinkedIn.
