Laura Kövesi, Chief Prosecutor at the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), has warned that authorities in EU member states aren’t showing enough interest in recovering the tens of billions of dollars lost to fraud each year.
EU tax authorities fail to collect an estimated €130BN in VAT each year, with between €30BN and €60BN of that lost to fraud or “simply stolen” from the country’s coffers, according to Ms Kövesi.
