ANALYSIS: The 7 steps banks must take on FinCEN’s Mexican cartel timeshare warning

FinCEN, the US Treasury’s AML unit, yesterday published a notice for financial institutions to operationalize threats related to timeshare fraud and Mexico-based trans-national criminal organisations (TCOs) like the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, commonly known as CJNG. 

This was issued jointly with the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the FBI.
