The Role / Position Overview
Reporting to the Deputy Head of Compliance, and part of the Legal, Secretariat and Compliance team, this varied role will cover general compliance duties for a private multinational group. These include assisting with compliance work across several business units in relation to GDPR and emerging global privacy laws, anti-bribery and corruption, sanctions, conflicts of interest, modern slavery and other ESG requirements, as well as overseeing the vendor due diligence process.
This role is suited to a mid-level compliance professional with at least 3 years experience and a desire to learn, and who has the ability to multi-task and take a pragmatic approach to compliance in a fast-paced commercial environment. Expertise in global data protection compliance is essential.
Main Responsibilities Include
Key Responsibilities
- The provision of ‘front-line’ ad hoc guidance to business stakeholders on all compliance areas.
- Responses to customers on access requests and general enquiries, including those relating to the use of cookies.
- Overseeing due diligence on vendors as part of the contract life cycle. This includes dealing with risks as they are escalated, and determining appropriate mitigations.
- Completing assessments relating to data processing activities, for example privacy impact assessments.
- Managing new compliance projects as they emerge.
- Creating new online training modules for relevant compliance areas, delivering face to face training where required and organising awareness raising activity across the business.
- Ensuring Compliance Policies are reviewed at the appropriate time, proposing amendments to Policies where required and managing the sign off process.
- Conducting Compliance reviews of contra (business to business) agreement proposals with consideration to data protection, e-marketing and anti-bribery and corruption procedures.
Assisting with, and identifying and escalating risks, on the following:
- Data protection elements of a complex advertising technology ecosphere, including changes in global laws and guidance from regulators.
- The development of compliance programmes for joint-ventures and future acquisitions.
- Monitoring and interpreting changes in global laws that will impact the business and assisting with identifying changes required to achieve compliance, including developing new processes and drafting policies.
- Attending and minuting monthly Data Governance Council meetings.
Required Skills / Experience
- A sound understanding of the principles of risk management and compliance.
- Experience of working in a general compliance role.
- Expertise of European, and ideally global, data protection laws.
- Ability to understand regulations and legal principles and their application to the business.
- Educated to a degree level or equivalent.
- Proactive, able to work on own initiative, with good organisation and time management skills and happy to work as part of a team.
- Able to effectively communicate with people internally and externally at all levels.
- Accurate, with an eye for detail, and able to meet deadlines.
- An understanding of the applicability of data protection laws to the use of cookies, and their role in the delivery of targeted advertising and the adtech ecosphere, would be desirable.
